Just a question. [There's a deep contemplative pause.]

Has anyone seen any Artefacts around? By an Artefact I mean something that doesn't belong in this time. You see, when different worlds come together this way all sorts of crazy things start to happen. Things get misplaced easily and they end up where they're not supposed to belong. Back home that's what we call a paradox.

Artefacts are used to open gates that allow you to travel up and down the timeline. The answers we need might not necessarily be in this time. It's nothing more than a theory, of course. Theories stay theories until they're proven.

With an Artefact, time travel might be possible. If anyone knows something about time travel or Artefacts at all, please contact me.

You're saying you're used to situations like these?

I've been in situations before. It's difficult to deal with, but that doesn't mean there isn't a solution to it. We just gotta use our heads a little. Think.

Oh, I'm not saying this situation is all that difficult to deal with. It's just that it's a situation I'm sure most people normally would never experience.

Not really, but I've experienced other weird stuff. It sort of makes up for my lack of experience in this particular department.

Other weird stuff? Does it involve getting wings attached to your back by any chance?

Not that. But it does involve people being manipulated a whole lot just like in this place.

It's a sad thought. That other people have suffered and ended up in here by chance.

.. well, that's just the way the world is, isn't it? A lot of people suffer every single day back home. You only have to turn on the TV or go out on the streets to notice it.

If everything doesn't belong, how are we supposed to recognize it?

Though I am curious. Why do we have these wings in the first place?

I'm not sure anyone really knows. All I've heard are theories... and that people outside the barrier have them too.

Mm. And apparently, if you sign up for the missions, you can leave whenever you want. Only for work though -- I've been here a month and a half.

Leave whenever you want? That sounds suspicious. Almost like some sort of trick.

A month and a half isn't too bad. You can at least get a grasp of what goes on during this place in that time.

I know it's selfish of me, but that's a month and a half longer than I ever wanted to be here. But... you're right.

Wait, are you saying that in your world, you can actually travel through time? I thought that kind of thing only existed in stories.

Yeah, more or less.

Some gates were meant for certain people. Not everyone can time travel using the Historia Crux. How much do you know about time traveling?

Um, not very much at all. Is the Historia Crux what that machine is called? That's what the Time Traveller used in the book I read, but they just called it a time machine there. I didn't know it had a name.

The Historia Crux isn't a machine. It lets some of us see the timeline and we can travel to the future and past.

Figured we might be talking about different things.

Hey, Emil. What would you do if you could see the future? Would you prevent yourself from ever making mistakes?

Me? I don't know-- I haven't really thought about it. I guess it would be nice if I could do something like that. But I think it might be kind of scary, too. I mean, what if you found out that something bad was going to happen, and you couldn't do anything to change it?

It's a scary thing to think about. Really, that's why I'm grateful not many of us have that sort of dreadful power.

If you always knew the outcome for anything, then what's the point of trying?

I think I'd want to try anyway, but... I don't know. Is there really a point if nothing you could do would make a difference?

That's a tough question. When you think about it, it does seem like there isn't any point really.

I guess it doesn't mean that you shouldn't still try, though.

Artifacts? [Wait, no, there's more to this than that- well, it still sounds fascinating, even if it's not what pinged her.] -- Artefacts. I haven't heard of them, but that sounds fascinating. What would we be looking for, were they to appear?

They're relics from another time.

It might be hard to distinguish what doesn't belong in this realm because everything seems out of place. If you know what I mean by that.

A lot of what gets drawn here are from other places, given the very nature of the world. Although I haven't seen very many relics, unfortunately.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens next.

What do you do around here when times are peaceful?

Hm? Usually, I teach at the school when it's in session, and keep the flower shop organized.

A paradox, huh... [ Vanille frowns, thoughtful, wondering if she's seen anything like that— something out of place. Besides them, and almost everyone she's met so far, she doesn't think she's seen anything unusual. ]

I don't think I've seen anything that doesn't belong— not really. But... it's kind of hard to tell what belongs and what doesn't, when you don't belong yourself.

Exactly.

We don't belong here and that's why I think all sorts of crazy things are happening.

I've heard that sometimes people suddenly go back home to where they belong.

For example, look at Serah. She was only here a few days ago and somehow managed to get back.

Serah was here? [ With everything she's heard, that isn't really an impossibility at all— but she hadn't gotten a chance to see her, when she really wished she had. She still has so much to say to her that she hasn't had a chance to get out yet. ] I guess I must've missed her.

But... I don't know about that. I know we're not supposed to be here because we're supposed to be in our worlds, but, from everything that's happened since I got here... it seems like we were all pulled here for a reason.

[ She glances over her shoulder, indicating the wings— they didn't just magically grow there, after all. Something put them there. ]
